Who we are...

The Jayla's Smile organization was created by 8 year old, Jayla of Jacksonville, FL. After Jayla was diagnosed with Lupus in May 2010, she and her Mother set out on a journey to find out more information on the disease and how it could affect their family. Because Lupus is rare in young children, Jayla decided to create an organization dedicated to kids just like herself. Look inside for more information on Jayla's story, what's next for Jayla's Smile, and what you can do to get involved!

It Takes A Village!

Wednesday, March 28, 2012 - Jayla's Smile, Inc (JSI) took part in improving the Greater Jacksonville community. JSI members volunteered in the Northeast Florida Builders Association and Habijax, a Habitat For Humanity company, building project which aims to build 12 homes in 6 days. Habijax has helped 1,800 families become home owners, since 1988. This buidling project began on March 24, 2012 and will be completed by Friday March 30, 2012. The new homes are located in New Town, a section West of Downtown Jacksonville.

Having stable homes in the New Town area hopes to encourage healthy development, academic success, and increase the well-being of the neighborhood's children. JSI President, Margaux Williams-Glover and JSI Administrative Secretary, Shawna Tookes, volunteered alongside building professionals and spent 16 manual labor hours on this project. Other JSI team members volunteering on the project included: Justin Nesbitt and Amanda Williams. Go Team! Check back next month for more updates on JSI's community related events.
